liebster award

Here is a big shoutout to That Little Pale Girl and Unknownkc who were both kind enough to nominate me for the Liebster Award. Make sure to check out their blogs, they are both fab. This award is a great way to get small bloggers a chance to connect with more people in the blogging community. Just a small disclaimer, I chose to use the questions from That Little Pale Girl because she nominated me first! I hope you enjoy.
1. thank and link the person who nominated you.
2. answer the nominators 11 questions.
3. nominate bloggers who have less than 200 followers, include their links.
4. create 11 more questions for your nominees to answer, be sure to notify them.
let's begin
1. why did you decide to start a blog? This is actually my third blog, but I started this for the same reason I started my past two! I needed a creative outlet where I could write down all my thoughts, in hope to inspire more people like me.
2. what is your favorite way to unwind? Definitely cuddling up on my favorite couch with my dog and favorite book. I love reading and it is the perfect thing to do after a long day at school or work.
3. if you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? This changes on a daily basis, but right now I really want to go down to Australia.
4. if you could be an animal what would you be and why? I would want to be a dog which may sound boring, but I think dogs have the best life. They are so loyal and loved.
5. how did you come up with your blog name? It actually took a lot of brainstorming, but I chose it because it's exactly what I am. A messy hair enthusiast.
6. what's the best advice you've ever received? To not compare yourself to others. Everyone is different and unique and there is nothing worse than changing something about yourself just to look like someone else. It's fine if you want to wear your makeup like Emma Watson or your hair like Lauren Conrad, but you don't want to loose sight of who you really are.
7. what is you favorite song at the moment? At the moment it would have to be a tie between Better Together by Jack Johnson and I Need You by M83 ( if you are a Divergent fan, that song is the one played when Tris is zip lining). The two songs are complete opposites but I love them both.
8. when you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? In elementary school I wanted to be a teacher, then in middle school I was set on being a fashion designer.
9. what food is you guilty pleasure? Chocolate chips. You can constantly find me walking through my kitchen just to grab a handful of them.
10. what is your favorite t.v. show right now? Once again I can't choose just one! My favorite weekly t.v. show is Once Upon A Time. My favorite Netflix show is Friends.
11. do you prefer cities or the countryside? This depends on my mood, but overall I think I prefer cities.
my questions
1. what should you be doing right now?
2. what is your biggest ambition?
3. favorite Disney movie?
4. if you met a genie, what would your 3 wishes be?
5. what is your all-time favorite clothing item?
6. what food could you not live without?
7. if you could dye your hair a crazy color what would it be?
8. favorite blogs?
9. describe your perfect summer day.
10. who is your favorite celebrity?
11. your number 1 tip for new bloggers.
my nominees
This Is Destani
my clueless mind
I Believe In Rosa
Zoe Mack
Truly Thevs
Laze Sundaze
gold & hearts
I hope you guys enjoyed learning a bit more about me, and if I nominated you and you complete the award let me know so I can read your post! Ciao for now.

3 braided hairstyles

I love braids. After years of learning how to do more and more braids, these are my top three favorite styles. These styles are pretty simple, so the instructions will be simple. If you want more in-depth instructions or have any questions let me know in the comments and I will get back to you. Also, if you would like to see more braided hairstyles, then let me know and I will gladly do that!

number 1

This braid reminds me a bit of a Katniss braid, in the sense that it wraps around the back of your head. All you have to do it start a french braid on one side of your head, braid it around the back, then incorporate it into another french braid that came down from the front. A tip that works for all of these hairstyles is to braid tightly, then at the end, loosen and pull it apart to create more volume.

number 2

For this braid you are going to create a deep side part (mine was in line with my left eyebrow) and begin french braiding along your hairline. Once you get to a good position on the side of your head, finish off with a normal braid. Feel free to pin down pieces so the braid lays flat to your head.

number 3
This is the simplest one, and by far the one I do most often. All you have to do is part your hair down the middle, then pick up a small section at the front of your head and french braid it backwards and down. When you run out of hair, simply finish it with a normal braid. Do the same to the other side and you're done!

I hope you found this helpful and were able to follow along with the directions! Ciao for now.

how to be happy

keep your head up princess, your tiara is falling.

Happiness is something everyone strives to achieve, but only some truly receive. But the truth of the matter is, nobody but you can make you happy. You don't need the perfect job or a boyfriend to feel good about yourself. Today I am going to share my top 10 tips on how to be happy every day.

1. smile It's amazing what a smile can do to lift your mood. The next time you're driving to school or work just smile and your mood will instantly improve. If you want to take it to the next step, smile at someone else. Not only will you brighten your day, but also theirs.

2. turn off your phone Trust me, I know this is hard. I'm the person who wakes up every morning and grabs her phone within five minutes. Next time your feeling stressed, just turn off your phone. Or if that stresses you out even more, just turn it on silent. You will feel calmer and more serene without the constant buzzing of emails and twitter updates.

3. drink water and eat fruit A good diet will always boost your mood, but eating healthy 24/7 can be challenging. I recommend keeping a water bottle with you to help inspire you to actually drink, and after a few days it will become a habit. Eating fruit just makes me happy so I recommend it to all of you.

4. curl up with your favorite book I mean your all-time favorite book. The one you recite word for word and the one you quote on a daily basis. Just take a half hour out of your day to sit on your favorite couch and read about your favorite characters. Your mood will improve instantly.

5. go on a walk- or if you're really adventurous- a jog. I am not the first to say I despise running. Although I do love a nice walk around my neighborhood with my dogs just to soak up some vitamin D and enjoy the fresh air. After being stuck inside all winter there is nothing like a walk through the park to make me feel happy. Even though running isn't my cup of tea, every once in a while when I'm filled with energy, I will take a nice one mile jog around my neighborhood and it actually makes me feel good. I blame it on the endorphins.

6. pamper yourself You deserve to feel good... and look good. Not feeling that great? Get in the shower and take time washing your hair and shaving. Then put on your favorite smelling lotion and face mask while waiting for your nails to dry. No one is ever upset after a good pamper session.

7. hang out with your best friend Best friends make everything better. They are the person who makes you laugh 'till you cry, holds your hand during tough times, and never passes up the opportunity to do something crazy. 'Cause friends don't let friends do silly things... alone.

8. write down what's bothering you This one is pretty self-explanatory, but write down what you are feeling then read it back. It will help give you a new perspective and improve your mood.

9. start a project for fun This does not mean a project for school or for work. You can paint, draw, re-vamp your bedroom, start a blog, do anything that will make you happy. Channeling your energy into something fun will make all your worries disappear.

10. focus on the now Aka don't look back at the past or forward into the future. This isn't something to do all the time because it is definitely good to plan your future (to a point). But every once in a while try to stop worrying about things you can't control and focus on making your current life happy.

I challenge you to consciously think about doing three of these ideas every time you feel less than happy. If you have any other suggestions leave them in the comments so we can all learn more! Ciao for now.

no-heat mermaid waves

I think I love the rain, because I am a mermaid who lives too far from the ocean.
As a girl who has longed to be a mermaid her whole life, this hair tutorial has been a life saver. For the majority of my life I have thought perfectly messed up, beachy hair was impossible to get without living in a quaint ocean town. If you're like me, then fear not! I have a simple, no-heat, overnight hairstyle that will diminish your mermaid hair envy.

1. I recommend starting with damp hair. Normally after I shower I will let my hair air dry for around 20 minutes, then begin the braiding process. If you are doing this on dry hair, go ahead and just spray it with water to dampen it.

2. Start braiding! I have tried countless types of braids, but this double french braid into a single braid has had the best results on my hair. Here is the step by step to completing this braid.

 • Split your hair into 2 sections following your natural part.
 • French braid each side until you reach the back of your neck.
 • Take the rest of your hair and make a single braid.
 • Tie off with an elastic. I recommend using a creaseless elastic so you aren't left with any un-wanted lines.

3. Leave the braid in for a few hours or just sleep in it.

4. Take out the braid, look in the mirror and stare in wonder at the mermaid in front of you. I always run my fingers through my hair and shake out the waves so they look more natural.

5. If you want, you can add some coconut oil on the ends for some natural shine and a smooth finish and some hairspray if your hair has trouble holding curls.

If you have any questions or tips leave them in the comments! Ciao for now.

DIY photo banner

Have you ever wanted your room to look like it came straight from tumblr
Here's your chance with this easy "tumblr" inspired photo banner!

time it takes:
if you have all the supplies ready to go, expect anywhere from 15-30 minutes

what you need:
your favorite pictures (I used about 20)
paper clips
6 small nails + hammer
disclaimer- the amount of each supply will vary depending on the size you want your final product to be

1. Take your small nails and hammer them into your wall. Before you start hammering away, make sure you make marks on your wall to ensure the final product will be positioned evenly.
2. Measure out 3 strands of the twine to your desired length.
3. Tie a loose knot in your twine and loop it over the nail.
4. Hang up your pictures! I used multi-colored paper clips from Staples, but you can use anything.
5. Now would be the time to add fairy lights if you wanted a magical touch.
6. Voila! Photograph your tumblr ready banner and post it for the world to see.

Here is an example of the string tied to the nail

I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful! If you have any tips to add, or if you make a banner for yourself, leave a comment below. Ciao for now.

travel makeup essentials

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

With spring break right around the corner and the promise of sunshine just a 15-hour car ride away, it's time to start putting together the perfect travel makeup bag.

Wether you are going away on vacation or just to a friend's house for an over-night, hopefully you can find some inspiration from my travel essentials and start putting together your perfect bag.

First things first, you need a makeup bag. When choosing the perfect bag you need to focus on 3 things. Where your going, how long you will be gone, and what's going into the bag. For example, say your going on a camping trip. I would recommend something waterproof, small (so it's easy to pack), and durable. Now, say your going on a month long trip to New York City. You need a bigger bag and you can afford to bring something a bit less durable and more fashionable, for it will just be sitting in your hotel.

Next is the fun part. The makeup. What you bring is completely up to you. I recommend keeping it light, there is no need to bring 3 different foundations and 5 various shades of red lipstick. Start by packing your simple, everyday makeup. Then you can add a small eyeshadow palette (try to find one that is versatile. I recommend the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette) and your favorite lipstick. The goal is not to bring your entire makeup collection, but to pick and choose the ultimate products.

Here are a few of the items I can never leave without!

With it's natural finish and unique gel formula, this is always in my bag.

The matte finish is perfect for a contour and bronzer, plus it smells like chocolate!

This is a fool-proof product that combs, colors, and tames your brows all in one.

Perfect for those of us who need a formula that will hold a curl.
It lasts all day and never flakes.

I recently jumped on the bandwagon for this and I am so glad I did.
It is very moisturizing and let's be honest, the packaging is what really sold me!

Let me know in the comments what your travel makeup essentials are, as well as any tips you may have. Ciao for now!

first time for everything.

There's a first time for everything. Or maybe I should say third times a charm?

Here is my third attempt at starting a blog.

Ok, here I go.

Hello everyone! This blog will mainly be for beauty, fashion, the random diy, and my jumbled up thoughts. I'm trying to embrace life and everything it has to offer. We are so lucky just to be alive and experiencing it's wonders first hand. Alright, philosophy aside, I hope you enjoy the posts to come (I will be posting every Sunday) and if you have any questions or advice, feel free to leave them in the comments! Ciao for now.
